Quit making me question what mid-size truck to buy when I can afford to... Maybe I should’ve paid more attention to the new Tacoma before now.
This interior looks awesome.
Bonus: It can have a sunroof. As of now the GM twins can’t. (First one to bring up self-immolation get -1,000,000 internet points)
The exterior looks pretty good too. Especially in this blue.
Now I just need some more info on the engine, which I’m struggling to find. I know it’s 3.5 liters and is port and direct injection. Sounds like it might be Lexuses version they use making 300HP?

And the crazy thing about Toyota trucks is that you can drive them 100,000 miles and it’ll still keep 75%+ of its’ resale value.

STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT.
Also, tbh, if Dodge (OK, RAM) brought back the Dakota I’d buy that over any other mid-sized truck,

Im shocked you cant get a sunroof on the gm trucks. That to me would be a deal breaker
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:13 |

I would only if it looked like a mini 1500.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:14 |

Also, since it uses lighter/stronger materials and is the same size as it was, it should be a Mississippian lighter.

EVERY new truck needs the valance(?) ripped off the moment they leave the dealer lot.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:15 |

Yeah, that was a big what the fuck to me. Maybe they’ll add it to the option list later? I hope so because that’s what my dad’s next car is going to be.

Ooh, so a good 3-400lbs
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:16 |

SO MUCH THIS.
Luckily, they’re (usually) held in with clips and screws that are easily removable.

Honestly as long as I liked how it looked I’d buy one. I have enough of a personal connection to that truck to do so.

Darn, thought it was a manual. I do love the interior.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:20 |

I feel like I remember reading a manual is still available, even on the V6.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:21 |

Looks pretty good! I’d rather have one of those than a Colorado.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:22 |

As long as they quit using the world’s most gutless V6 in it. Mine’s supercharged and STILL struggles to maintain interstate speed.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:22 |

In theory, especially since it should also use a lighter engine. Though I do mean that much lighter than the GM twins, since the current Taco is a couple hundred pounds lighter.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:22 |

I’d have to say it’d definitely come down to a thorough test drive of both to decide.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:24 |

The old/current 4.0L is that bad..? Or are we talking even older?
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:26 |
|
Yep, the V6 even gets a new 6-speed, it’s not even a carryover.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:28 |

Mine’s a ‘10 so I’m going with old/current. My truck is also very much not stock and at 7000 feet ASL, but still.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:28 |

really? I got way less HP and way more truck I don’t have an issue. I mean towing or up at 10,000 feet going up a 6% grade, sure...but other than that, its plenty.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:29 |

Perfect, but change the blue!
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:29 |

I have some guesses on the engine.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:30 |

NO.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:31 |

Probably a combination of altitude and gearing. It will eventually downshift and start accelerating again, but it refuses to upshift, so I go down the highway at 500rpm below redline getting 8mpg.
The cruise control also seems to have some sort of proportional correction routine, because after being below target speed for so long, if left to its own devices it will continue accelerating until it is 15-20mph above target speed. You have to really watch it.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:37 |
|
It sounds like you have problems with it. Nothing you said sounds normal. I pulled a 3000 lb boat at high altitude with the cruiser and got better mileage and I’m probably 1000 lbs heavier and 80 hp down
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:38 |

My personal opinion is that the interior of the Colorado is a bit dingy.

YES
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:39 |

Eh, it’s not the most interesting design in the world, but it had a quality feel to it. At least the one(s) I sat in at the autoshow and dealer did.

Ew no anything but burnt orange.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:41 |

I don’t like the shifter too much, I personally think trucks shouldn’t have consoles and should have bench seats and column shifters instead. But that’s just me, haha.

That’s not forest ranger green. NO DEAL, HOWIE!
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:44 |

Everything that’s not RWD I think gets a manual. Can’t remember what they said.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:45 |

I do love the green.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:46 |

Dammit, they are still sticking that stupid fake hood scoop on it?!
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:49 |
|
Yup, and I believe it continues on to the 2016.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:51 |
|
Yeah, that’s what I mean. I can’t believe they are doing it on the new model. So stupid.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:53 |

Plot twist, it's actually functional now.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:53 |

No! RIPPED OFF.
Find a gator if you have to.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:54 |

If I can keep it in 5th I can usually get about 12-15mpg. If there’s something wrong with it, it’s been wrong with it for a while. The reason I got the SC in the first place was I couldn’t maintain traffic speed going on 70 past Denver. It’d get on those hills and even with my foot to the floor it didn’t have it. That was at <10,000 miles on the truck.
It also helps to note that it can do 65-70 just fine. It’s the 75-85 range where it starts to run into trouble. Makes me think it’s aero related.
It may just be that I’m so used to cars with absurd amounts of power that my standards are too high. I don’t know. At any rate, I’m headed back to sea level soon, so hopefully it won’t be an issue.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:54 |

Yeah it is.
I also didn’t realize the one pictured was a 2016. Oops.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:54 |

See, but that's how we get damaged bumper covers, and no one wants that.

“It isn’t a real luxury truck if the VIN isn’t laser engraved into the center console lid.” -Ford.
Ford didn’t actually say that, but the VIN is engraved on the Limited models.
![]() 07/23/2015 at 22:56 |

That's a bit strange.. Easy to get the vin if you need it though!

I know! My father got used to the one in his Tacoma but anyone who gets in it asks what the hell is the “dune” in the hood.
Tacoma in question.
![]() 07/24/2015 at 00:14 |

Yea, but how many BTU’s does it give off when in burst into flames?
![]() 07/24/2015 at 00:42 |

There’s a lot to like about the new Taco, even if, like the corolla and Camry, it’s mostly the same vehicle as before, but with some overdue needed updates.
Ford needs to make the Ranger available here ASAP, ditto the Everest and most of the Australian lineup.

Can confirm, actually for me it was 50% at 100,000 and 13 years old.
